1 kg flour
50 gr yeast
2 packages of vanilla sugar
400 gr butter
1 l milk
1/2 l water
pinch of salt
10 eggs

HISTORY

Although you see them everywhere, waffles are not a Belgian invention. In the Middle Ages they could already be found in Paris. In old history books they are also mentioned in the Netherlands and Germany . We read of “waffle street vendors” for the first time in the 17th century. The first mention of the famous Brussels waffle is at the end of the 19th century. After that, many restaurants specialized in waffles appeared. That’s the moment when the waffle became famous and popular in Belgium. Waffles are also so popular because you don’t need many ingredients and so they are pretty cheap to make. The most famous type is the Brussels waffle. There are also Flemish waffles, which are similar. The biggest difference is the size. The shape and the ingredients are the same.

HOW TO

Pour the flour into a very big bowl. Make a well and pour the liquids into it. Crumble the yeast into the liquid. Add the melted butter.Next, add the vanilla sugar.Finish by adding the salt and the egg yolks.Beat the egg whites.Mix together with a spatula until smooth.Leave to rise in a warm place for at least two hours.Be sure that your bowl is big enough!Bake the waffles in a waffle iron machine.
